Over the next decade a significant number of Australians will be considering their retirement options. In fact it is estimated that in 10 years the number of people aged 65 to 74 is expected to increase by nearly 50 per cent.

The Bayside region has a range of options for retirees and now a local company is adding another choice to the list.

Palacio Property Group will be giving Bayside locals the option of staying at home during retirement so they can live independently, stay close to friends and family and enjoy life in the comfort of their own homes.

Palacio Property Group founding director Stuart McQueen has worked in the Bayside region for over three years and has already developed several residential properties in the area.

“We develop contemporary, stylish homes that also incorporate special design features to ensure retirees can live as comfortable as possible,” Mr McQueen said.

“Our homes offer everything you could want; from modern, sustainable design to beautiful sceneries on offer. Each of our homes are in strategic locations, they offer incredible sceneries and are close to local amenities such as shopping centers andmedical facilities,” he said.

“They’re also low maintenance, and include simple designs such as wide door ways foreasy access, adequate shelving in cupboards and rails in the bathroom and toilet,” hesaid.

Mr McQueen said his properties have garnered strong interest over the years.

“While a lot of people are still keen to move into retirement villages for the lifestyle they offer, we’re tapping into a new market that wishes to stay at home. Retirement doesn’talways have to mean selling your house and moving elsewhere,” he said.

“Technology and medicine has improved significantly in the past few decades that many people no longer need assisted living as they age,” he said.

“We recognise this is a growing market, and we’ve undertaken extensive research tounderstand and meet their needs.”

Mr McQueen said his residential properties are not only attracting seniors, but also middle-aged couples.

“A new trend we’ve seen in the past year is middle-aged couples purchasing homes already equipped with the necessary design features to make their future retirement as comfortable as possible. These people are buying family homes that can easily accommodate them during their retirement. People are really starting to think ahead,”he said.

"Our architects always consider the care the resident may require down the track. We incorporate these special designs without compromising the contemporary style of the homes. That’s why our homes are unique.”accommodate them during their retirement. People are really starting to think ahead,”he said.

Palacio’s latest project to begin construction is Bahia Breeze, a contemporary 13-unit residential development located in the heart of Redland bay. The innovative development has already garnered a lot interest, with most units already sold.

Each luxury villa has air-conditioning and features a modern spacious floor-plan with quality finishes, high ceilings and generous living spaces.

The master bedrooms feature an ensuite and a large walk in wardrobe and residences will also enjoy a well-appointed designer kitchen with stone bench tops, a separate laundry and a single or double lock up garage.

The generous open plan living areas overlook a spacious terrace and barbeque area perfect for entertaining. The tiled and covered alfresco areas have been designed for outdoor living and feature low maintenance, tasteful landscaping.

Mr McQueen said his passion to build homes for retirees stems from his own dreams to stay at home during retirement.

“Over the next 10 years or so there will be immense pressure on the retirement living sector. When the time comes for my wife and I to retire, we’d like to do so in thecomfort of our own home. That’s how I initially started developing homes for retirees; Ithought there are probably a lot of people out there who would like to do the same. I want other people to have this option as well,” Mr McQueen explains.

Mr McQueen said this luxurious lifestyle is now an affordable and common reality for many retirees.

“I’m very passionate about providing alternative options to full retirement living,” he said.

“This is the new living option for our retirees; it’s affordable, convenient and comfortable living at its very best.”
